Giant Comet Hits Sun Causing Huge CME
A massive CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) has been triggered on the Sun by a huge comet. The Comet collided with the Sun Oct 2. Comets constantly hit the sun but this on is way larger and potentially more dangerous than normal. The CME will take days to reach Earth and it is not known exactly how strong it will be, We are pretty well protected from CME’s by our atmosphere but Scientists have warned that communication satellites are in danger. If a CME was big enough it could actually knock out the power grid. The Sun as been especially active lately. One of the major Sun monitoring sites was blacked out when this happened, leading to much speculation as to the potential dangers from this collision.
US and UK Prepare For Solar Storms
Scientists are recommending that the entire power grid be turned off in the event of a large solar storm. If left on, a huge electromagnetic wave coming from the sun, could literally fry our transformers and power lines. In an interview with The Independent (independent.co.uk), Thomas Bogdan, director of the US Space Weather Prediction Center, said that “controlled power outages will protect the National Electricity Grids against damage which could take months or even years to repair should a large solar storm collide with the Earth without any precautions being taken”. “It points to a potential scenario where large parts of either North America or northern Europe may be without power from between days or weeks, to perhaps months and, in extreme cases, there are estimates that it could last years,” Dr Bogdan said.

In 1989, a solar geomagnetic storm fried the electricity grid serving many parts of Canada. Astronomer Richard Carrington reported a similar intense solar storm in 1859, which burnt out telegraph wires. “The sort of storms capable of doing that are fairly rare events. We refer to them as ‘black swans’,” Dr Bogdan said. “If the Carrington event occurred today, and power grid operators did not take efforts to safeguard their infrastructure, then we could be facing a scenario like that.

An employee of NASA has leaked a mass email sent on or about June 9.2011 urging disaster preparedness for all NASA employees. This may just be standard fare but it comes on the heels of some very shocking revelations. NASA and the ESA (European Space Agency) have been warning the world for two years about the approaching catastrophes that may unfold during late 2011 through 2012.
