Maybe dont bother convincing the active doom proponents (only focus on the gullible followers) because it’s like religion:
- arguments from ignorance and incredulity
- shifting burden of proof
- assumptions, assumptions, half facts, lies, assumptions and circular reasoning.
For next videos, maybe address that
- we are far from crossing the galactic plain (like 30MLN years I believe)
- sun alignment is every winter
- These are things that happened all the time in history

No, I’m not. Look at the numbers.
As for [1], yes, that is true, which is one reason why averages over the last century are probably higher than those numbers reflect. Our detection abilities have improved drastically over the last 50 years or so, ergo we detect more, on top of the fact that these events don’t exactly occur with clockwork precision.

@StephenWebb1980 ..is very, very difficult and unfortunately we don’t have the proper tools or know how to pinpoint with that much accuracy the how, where, why, and when of CME/crazy weather connection. We have always been in danger, but it seems like everything that needs to come together for a big disaster is falling into place. Perhaps it just seems that way because we know more now than ever before, or maybe not…time will tell.

@LibertyIsNotGiven Ok. Lets first look at the basis of your reply – The magnetosphere is ALWAYS in flux – yes this is true [everything in the physical universe is for that matter]. You are making more of an assumption than I am in regards to the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions though. 1] Not all occurrences of earthquakes and eruptions in the past have been recorded so it is hard for either of us to make an accurate statement there…2] trying to link exact storms to CMEs and sun activity..

A similar flare today would have far more impact. Depending on how we react to satellite evidence, we may or may not be able to shut down the electric grid.

A CME doesn’t have to be “huge” to produce auroras. If you “study the sun [every day] for work,” shouldn’t you have at least known there *was* a CME when you claimed there wasn’t?

The magnetosphere is in flux all the time (geologic time, that is). If you’re referring to THEMIS, that news is two years old.
Earthquakes and volcanoes are not unusually prevalent now relative to any other time on record. Maybe you’d like to give an example of “drastic weather changes,” and if true, link them definitively to solar flares as opposed to something else.

And what of the hole in the magnetosphere being 12 times larger than NASA had originally assumed. Its shifting rapidly, and evidence is seen in more common earthquakes, volcanic eruption, and drastic weather changes. Hell, in the widwest last winter there were days when it was -16 degrees and the wind speed gusted at up to 90 MPH, which is really bizarre even for Montana. whales and birds getting lost during migration is also being seen in some areas [in australia 36 whales found on beach]

You, Me, Nasa or even the EuropeanSpaceAgency knows what kind of real spots will be generated or their effect on telecommunications. We need to be accurate if dispelling worries imo.

Look into the images of the minimum. That CME was not huge and what made ESA announce the 24th had finally started as the magnetic poles were switched in the spots as opposed to previous spots last year that were so small they were barely spots. I study the sun everyday for work,
